For the first time Chanel No. 5

Brad Pitt is the new face for the iconic and most renowned perfume of all times!For the first time a man will be the face of the perfume following in the footsteps of Coco Chanel ,Catherine Deneuve ,Nicole Kidman and Audrey Tautou. The brand chose Brad because no actor alive whose talent ,popularity and looks are as legendary as Pitt's in the same way that no other perfume compares by Chanel No. 5.The perfume was created by Ernest Beaux  and it was named No.5 because it was the fifth sample in line and it was the one that Coco Chanel chose!According to some she also chooses the number 5 because of its magical luck giving qualities.Learn the history of this iconic perfume in this 4 minutes- must see- video below!! Chanel S/S 2013

Having to design for a brand with this kind of heritage and iconic status for such a long time (since 1983) its not the easiest thing for a designer.Karl Lagerfeld every season has to reinvent the Chanel tweed jacket and use chains , camellias and pearls, elements which are synonymous with the brand. For this collection Karl didn't use any chains or camellias he just kept the pearls.Big chunky pearl necklaces and bracelets completed almost every outfit and also used on the hair.Pearls mixed with the Chanel tweed cropped jacket worn with leather gloves.Karl accomplished once again to make it look modern and youthful with a rock edge.Thirteen -almost life size- wind turbines were placed across the runway at the Grand Palais venue.For a second i thought that the collection will have an ecological message but when the first model walked the runway i second-guessed my self.After a few more looks the ecological message was found!A dress was mimicking the solar panel design of the catwalk through black and blue sequins. That's just as eco as Chanel can get!The showstopper pieces were the semi transparent hats made from PVC and the Lego like clutch.One item accomplished to leave everyone speechless a half hula hoop half bag which completed the swimsuit of the collection.I read a comment on the Tfs  about this ''beach bag'' naming it Anna dello Russo by the pool!Karl in my opinion created a great and wearable pret-a-porter Summer collection which i think will have big commercial and editorial success.
